The problem, now, is many are seeing less traffic from the article directories and less of the big ezine publishers are using article directories for content. Instead, they are turning to other sources like writers that contact them and send them good articles for their newsletter. Again, they will allow you to provide a link back to your site or two and this is a big benefit for you.

This is where article syndication enters into the ring and takes over. If you can get your article in front of hundreds or even thousands of people that subscribe to a specific newsletter, then you can get a large amount of traffic very quickly. Many ezine publisher need high quality content and you can be the one providing it for them.
They can use your article in their newsletter and you will get a link back to your website or blog. This is much cheaper and actually can work much better than paying for a solo ad in an ezine. Ezine solo ads can cost anywhere from a few hundred dollars to a few thousand dollars. It usually depends on the size of the list your ad will go out to.
However, if you can get an ezine publisher to use your article, instead, then you can get your link in front of their list for free. All you have to do is provide a high quality article to help them fill the content they need for their newsletter.
The Plan for Using Article Syndication and Article Marketing
The best way to use article syndication and article marketing is to combine the two into a plan of attack. If you are working with a blog, you can take any of the posts you are putting up on your blog and submit them out to a handful of the top article directories. You only need to use around five directories to gain the benefits of article marketing. It is a waste to blast your articles out to hundreds or thousands of article directories.
Now, you can find a handful of ezine publishers in your industry and contact them about providing content for their newsletter. Always ask them before you start sending over articles. You may want to subscribe to their newsletter, as well, to see what kind of format they use, what type of content they like, and how long they prefer the content to be. Once they give you permission, you can send over an article with a resource box linking back to your website or blog.
Make sure the article you send them is high quality and is as perfect as you can get it. You need them to use it and once they see your writing is quality you will be able to send them articles regularly for their newsletter. This is how you use article syndication properly and by getting your article in front of ezine publishers you will be able to get more quality traffic than just using the article directories.
